say nothing
I'm really tired today. We had a council meeting last night that basically felt like a mini marathon: 7:30-10:30. As usual, I went home tired and wired. A little TV, a shower, and a couple chapters of "The Time Machine" left me looking at 11:45 and the knowledge that I'd be up at 6:30 to be ready for prayer meeting. It's been a long day. Sometimes on days like today I just want to go home and have Christmas; be with my family, play my mom's classical guitar, light a fire, light candles, light anything, turn on our house's year-round Christmas lights, walk around Dalmeny at night and look in lighted windows, eat my mom's food and tell her everything, tease Hailey about boys, laugh at Caitlin because she's psycho, talk about work and Bruce Cockburn with my dad, and just sit in the living room with someone I love and say nothing. I've found it's rare to meet someone with whom you're comfortable talking about anything or just saying nothing. Rare and so valuable. I miss my home today, but once I'm done this, I'll be sufficiently distracted until I hit the pillow: a lawn to be mowed, a prayer meeting to be .. prayed?, music to be practiced, calls to be phoned, and dishes .... the brownie-baking remnant is leering at me through brown, brown water in my kitchen sink. You think I'm scared, dirty bowl? Let's see what you think after I drown you, beat you with a dishcloth, and leave you on the rack for the night. Take that, fart-head.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas myself. I guess all of you guys will be there before me because my exams only finish on the 16th of December, but I want to be there as soon as I can. There are a lot of great things about home...especially Kydd!!!!
Love you.

caitlin, you found me. sweet. yeah, Kyd is definitely wiggety-sweet; pretty much deserves a trophy and everything. i'm still kind of hoping to pick you up from wpg in december, unless you have something worked out with Stephan. say hi to that guy for me. see you soon, and i love you and Kyd both too.
Simo - I just re-discovered your blog the other day. After being in the boonies with a semi-arcaic computer with a firewall? that was not about to allow me to venture much further than "hotmail"... Sigh, buddy. We'll have to catch up soon. I'd love to chat! Let me know if and when you can squeeze in a phone call - I know how hectic "pastoral duties" can be...
Ah, the wonders of clicking on a username and seeing what comes up. I'm glad I found your blog, Simon!
I once craved a lemon pie, but there was no one around to help me make one. I've watched Mom do it before...didn't look too hard. Everything was going fine until I poured the hot lemon onto the crust I made. Hmmm...I wondered...the crust shouldn't be bubbling and turning a different color.
Then I noticed the fatal error I made. Instead of graham crumbs, I used brown sugar for the crust. THEY LOOK THE SAME, doggone it! Everything under the lemon was burnt horribly.
I tried to salvage the lemon by peeling it from the burnt crust...I put it into a bowl and put whipped cream on top of it. Then I found actual graham crumbs and stirred it in. It was by far the yummiest unconventional pie I've ever had.
Hey Simon
I love reading your blog. I know what you mean about the comfort of home and the joy it brings. I am learning to appreciate family and my home more and more now that I am done school. Don't worry I suck at baking. I bet I am worse than you by far. Ask anyone. Anyways, take care
wow
all of a sudden you got real popular. hyuk hyuk.
Have you heard about Grandpa? I am still kind of in shock. It sometime seems like people in our lives are immortal, but we obviously can't be. Anyways, to make this an upbeat post about Grandpa, let's do a Grandpa F memory...
*Pressing loonie into hand, and clasping your hands in between his hands* The-great-gift-of-a-loonie whenever-we-visit-Grandpa-memory! (if you require further clarification just let me know!)
definitely a good memory, camille. Loved those loonies. I have a recent one: sitting basically "cheek-to-cheek" on the couch (so he could hear me) watching boxing on TV last Christmas. Grandpa and I haven't talked much in the past, but it was cool to sit and talk about a sport I know nothing about.
If Grandpa and Grandma make the Tgiving trip to Stoon, I'm probably going to come out for a couple days, so might see you soon.
